How to fix a Corrupted USB Drive using CMD

Ever seen this message on any of your USB drives before?

The other day I did.

If this has happened to you there is one trick I used to get access back to the drive.

  1. Plug in your USB drive.
  2. Open an elevated CMD window.
  3. In the CMD window type the following:

If successful this operation will make Windows check and fix the file system on the USB drive. If the repair can complete it will show a message saying “Windows has made corrections to the file system” in the CMD window.

It is recommended to temporarily copy the content of the USB drive to an alternate location and then format the drive and/ or perform any diagnostic troubleshooting over the device to ensure its proper working state.
